Kentucky Doll and Toy Museum - Carlisle, Ky
Dolls and toys from local collectors spanning the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries give a glimpse into the history of generations past. They tell stories of childhood and create in adults a nostalgic trip into the past, as well as expose today's children to a simpler time before televisions and computers.
Dolls of wood, bisque, porcelain, and composition - from fine art sculpture to primitive playthings charm the casual observer and challenge the serious collector.
Related furnishings and accessories as well as a variety of toys capture the interest of all of us who remember childhood play with fondness, and the imagination of children who want to know what grandma and grandpa played with when they were little.
Several dollhouses are available for viewing and two of them can even be played with!
Calvin Denton's collection of toy fire engines are a wonderful compliment to the other toys and many in the community have promised some gem they believe will be of interest to others who enjoy the world of play!
Furthermore the museum contains a large collection of resource materials for visitors to research their own treasures and has a curator who looks forward to helping answer any questions.
Admission is $2 for adults and free for children under 12l. We are a non-profit organization and donations of any amount are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
