Collections
Following the lead in museums around the country, the Kentucky Doll & Toy Museum houses privately owned collections on permanent display and also features special exhibits throughout the year.
The complete King George VI collection is a 21 doll collection on loan to the museum from Phillip and Trudy Tibbs. The set was originally sold at Liberty of London department store from 1930 through 1960.
Dolls and toys are also on loan from Sally Showalter, Ann Kraus, Carolyn Asbury, Everett Earl Pfanstiel, Sally Esterhay, Gladys Shrout, and Calvin & Melanies Denton.
Also in our permanent collection are German bisques, including several Hildas and Lenci dolls, many composition dolls such as Shirley Temple, Lovums, Lambkins, Effanbee, Aranbee, and other American character dolls from the 1940's through the 1960's, as well as an array of 19th and 20th century toys. We also house a large collection of beautiful handmade doll clothing from dating from the 1930's to the 1950's
Toy collections includes G.I. Joes and numerous accessories, a folk art circus, many old wind up and mechanical toys, as well as a Star Wars exhibit.
